Our Perspective Future
Spruce gum traditionally comes from spruce trees. You can scrape some off the spruce trees or you can also find spruce gum that’s in its liquid form. Spruce gum is good to heal open sores and wounds. If you apply the spruce gum to a cut, it will heal in a couple of days. If you boil the spruce gum until the water has a good texture, you can drink the water to cure any colds, stomach flu, or other minor sicknesses. Even if it’s boiled, you can chew it as regular gum for its taste or to cure a sore throat. What ever you do don’t swallow it. Spruce gum is 100% natural and safe. This knowledge was passed down from generation to generation to use it as a medicine for the Dene people.
